From my students: 学生から
I finally finished teaching this academic year last Wednesday. As a surprise present, they gave me presents and nice messages! I was really touched and moved.
先週の水曜日に一応、今年度の最後の授業が終わり、その時に、サプライズプレゼントとして、みんなから寄せ書きとプレゼントをもらいました。いや〜、感動しました。全然気がつかなかったよ〜！
Everybody wrote their messages in Japanese and I was very impressed. I felt so lucky to teach those students.
みんな、いろんなことを、日本語で書いてくれていて、びっくりしました。いい学生をもって、幸せです。

Summer program:夏期講習
I am teaching again this summer. Every day for four hours and cultural events every Friday. Sometimes it is fun, but obviously we are all getting tired. Just one more week to finish, which gives me some energy.
今年の夏も教えています。毎日４時間に加え、金曜日は文化活動も。楽しいことは楽しいんだけど、さすがに学生も教師も疲れてきた〜！でも、あと１週間で終わると思うと、なんとなく元気になってきてたりして、、、。
Calligraphy class: 書道のクラス

I told him that you were supposed to write your name on the left, and he was very sad, since the name is the last thing that you write. Anyway, he tried again and he did it again..:(
名前は左だよと伝えたあと、「あ〜！しまった！」と再挑戦した結果がこれ。
集中力があるんだか、ないんだか。

生け花のクラス：Flower arrangement.
There are male students in my class this year, so it was a little bit funny to see them doing flower arrangement, but I guess they enjoyed it.
今年は、男の子が多いクラスだったもんで、生け花でよかったのかなぁと思いながら、眺めてましたが、みんななかなかまじめにやってました。

日本料理のレストランへ：To Japanese restaurant
Not all the students came, but it was nice to go to a Japanese restaurant...
The students asked me more questions than they do in class.
全員は参加できなかったけど、日本料理屋へ。なかなかよかったです。
学生は授業中の時なんかよりも、かなり積極的にいろいろ聞いてきてました。やっぱり食べ物って、学習効果ありなのねぇ。

Last day to teach for this summer:
この夏、最後の授業After 8 weeks of teaching, finally we reached this day to complete our class. On the last day of our class, my students had to give a presentation. It was a long but fulfilling summer for me.
８週間後、ついに最終日を迎えました。最後の日は学生の発表でした。長かったけど充実した夏となりました。

Field trip to Museum of Asian arts.
アジア美術館へのフィールドトリップ
Since there was an interesting exhibition at the museum, we made a field trip to San Francisco. It was fun, but a little bit tiring in the end. They were my students. :)
美術館で、手塚治虫展がやっていたので、学生を連れてサンフランシスコへ。おもしろかったけど、やっぱり学生を連れて行くと疲れるなぁ。

Teach how to make sushi:すしの作り方
Until I came to the States, I have never made sushi by myself in my life, maybe. After becoming a Japanese language teacher, I start making sushi more often than ever.
My current students are also interested in making sushi.

たぶん、アメリカに来るまで、人生の中で寿司を一人で作ったことなんてなかったと思う。日本語教師になってから、すんごい勢いで毎年寿司作りをしているような気がする。
今教えている学生も、すし作りには興味深々。


They made their own sushi for lunch. One of the students were impressed by finding out that each roll makes this way by cutting a long roll. He said that he had thought that they all make small pieces one by one.
自分の寿司を作って満足げな学生たち。ある学生は、巻き寿司はこうやって作るのか〜と感動していた。どうやら、彼はこの日まで、一つ一つ、小さい巻き寿司を作るもんだと思っていたみたい。
