Sora's Birthday: そうらちゃんの誕生日会

Sora, Edo's classmate, had a birthday party and we were invited. Unfortunately, Ale got sick and stayed at home on that day.

エドのクラスメートのそうらちゃんの誕生日に招待されました。アレはその日病気で家にいましたが、、、。
Sora is always always very friendly.

そうらちゃんはいつも本当にフレンドリーです。
There were only three kids including Sora at the party.

パーティーはそうらちゃんを入れて、子供は３人だけでした。
Edo was sitting next to Sora.

しっかりそうらちゃんの横に座らせてもらっていました。
After they started playing and jumping on the sofa, her parents told me that Sora has never done such at home... so I guess some influence of Edo?!?! ops.

その後、二人はソファの上で飛んだり跳ねたりして遊んでいたのだけど、そうらちゃんの両親いわく、そうらちゃんは今までこんなことしたことがなかったとか、、、。ってことは、エドの影響ってことかしら？？

Happy Birthday For Ale: アレの誕生日！

For Ale's birthday, we celebrated it at home.

アレの誕生日で、家で誕生日をしました。
Edo was excited too!

エドもろうそくに大喜び！

Happy Birthday for Edo: エドの１歳の誕生日

Edo finally became one year old! It seems long or fast...

エドも１歳になりました。長かったような短かったような。

Of course, one of the dishes is "red snapper" for a happy occasion.

もちろん、めでたいので、鯛。
Since my mom was here with us, she cooked so many great Japanese dishes for this big day!

うちの母が来てくれていたので、本当にいろんな日本料理がテーブルに並びました。
For his birthday, we celebrated with Enrico/Elisa/Sandrino, and Elisa's mother who is visiting from Italy.

お祝いは、エンリコ家族とエリザのお母さんもイタリアから来ていたので一緒に祝ってもらいました。
We had a lunch party before our kids became fussy and difficult.

パーティーはまだ子供達がぐずらないお昼ごはんにしました。
Too bad that Edo can't eat any of these great foods!

エドはまだこんな豪華なご飯なのに食べられないのが残念。
Anyway, there is a Japanese tradition (or custom) for one year old birthday. First of all, put 1.5 kg worth sticky sweet rice on the back of the one-year-old, and then let him choose one item from three or more: Choices are a book, abacus, money, and/or more. Depending on what he chose, we will forecast what he will become. If he choose a book, he will become a scholar. If an abacus, he will become a business person. If money, he will become rich. So we did our version of these choices. (book, money, iPod (engineer), camera (artist/engineer?), marcus (musician)) And instead of 1.5 kg of sticky sweet rice, we put 500 g of pasta and 500g of Japanese sticky sweet rice.

で、日本では一升餅を背負わせて、本、そろばん、お金をおいて何をとるかを選ばせてその子の将来を占うという習慣があるとか、ないとか。で、うちもそれに似た事で、選択肢は、本、お金、iPod（エンジニア）、カメラ（アーティスト／エンジニア？）、マラカス（ミュージシャン）にしました。そして、一升餅のかわりに、500gの餅と500gのパスタを背負わせました。

エドも、お父さんみたいなエンジニアになるのかな〜？！エンジニアは一家に一人でいいんだけどね、、。
After the custom, the birthday cake. I made a yogurt birthday cake for Edo.

そのあとは、バースデーケーキ。今回はがんばってヨーグルトケーキを作ってみました。
Edo tasted a little first...

とりあえず、一口。
And then Edo got some help from Sandrino to finish his cake.

そのあとは、サンドリーノに手伝ってもらいながら、二人で食べてました。
Sandrino? Buona??

サンドリーノ、ボーノ？
Then we started opening his presents!

そのあとは、プレゼント！何かな〜？！
Enrico/Elisa/Sandrino gave him this train toy! The kids as well as the adults got so excited!

エンリコ家族達からは、こんな素敵な電車のセットをもらいました！子供達、そして大人も大喜び！
And even Elisa's mother gave him an airplane! Grazie!

そして、エリザのお母さんからは、この飛行機をもらいました。
And we received this wooden toy from my brother's family as well...

そして、うちの兄家族からはこのおもしろい木のおもちゃを。
Edo got so excited and stayed that way even at night with all the toys that he received! Thanks all!

夜になっても、いろんなおもちゃがあって、落ち着かないエド。すごくうれしそうでした。

Sandrino's Birthday Continued: サンドリーノの誕生日会の続き
After the party, we took a walk in Berkeley and Sandrino was on his new gear.
パーティーの後、バークレーを散歩しました。サンドリーノはもちろん新しい三輪車で！
It's a good season and there were many flowers bloomed. It was a nice walk in the afternoon.
とてもいい季節でいろんな花が咲いていて、いい散歩になりました。
After coming back from walk, our little ones were hungry, so a little snack time.
Elisa gave Edo her home-made yogurt. Usually Edo was not so keen on yogurt, but he really liked hers.
散歩から帰って来たら、エドもサンドリーノもお腹がすいていたので、ちょっとしたおやつの時間をしました。エリザがホームメイドのヨーグルトをくれました。エドはあんまりヨーグルトは好きじゃないのだけど、エリザのヨーグルトはアフアフ言って食べてました。
アレは私たちがあげたサンドリーノにあげたプレゼントでさっそく遊んでいました。
Ale was playing with the present that we gave to Sandrino.
Well, Edo is very energetic but a little bit violent. So Sandrino is always cautious to Edo.
エドですが、、元気がいいと言えば聞こえはいいのだけど、なんとも乱暴もので、サンドリーノもすごく警戒してるのです、、、。
Their grandpa got THE moment with his camera. After this, Sandrino started crying whenever Edo came into 1 meter circle around him.
二人のおじいちゃんがその瞬間をカメラにおさめました。この後からでしょうか、半径１メートルぐらいにエドが来ると、サンドリーノが泣き始めるようになったのは、、。

Sandrino's Birthday Party: サンドリーノの誕生日会！
Sandrino became one year old and we celebrated his first one together.
サンドリーノも１歳になり、みんなでいっしょに祝いました。

Elisa made this cake for Sandrino.
エリザの手作りケーキ。
And this is the one that his grandparents got for Sandrino.
これが、おじいちゃんおばあちゃんからのサンドリーノへのプレゼント。エドはプレゼントを探している時にいろいろ乗っていたせいか、わがもののように扱っていました。
From this picture, somehow Sandrino and Edo looked like they were playing nicely together...
こうやって写真で見ると、仲良さそうに遊んでいるようにみえるんですけどね、、、。
After Edo bugged Sandrino enough, the grandparents put Edo together with Sandrino, but Sandrino looked very sad and dissatisfied. Video

Hannah's Birthday Party: 花菜ちゃんの誕生日パーティー
Hannah became already three and we were invited to her party.
はなちゃんも３歳になり、誕生日会に行ってきました。
Hannah looked happy with her daddy.
お父さんと一緒で楽しそうなはなちゃん。
Edo got his paper crown and Hannah was very nice to Edo.
エドもちゃっかりこんなものをつけて、はなちゃんにかわいがってもらってました。
The weather was good and the party was held in the park nearby.
天気もよく、近くでの公園で楽しみました。
Hannah was very gentle and touched Edo's hand so softly and nicely.
はなちゃんもひかえめに、エドの手をにぎってくれてました。
We all played balls in the park.
みんなボールで遊んでました。

To Yume's birthday Party: ゆめちゃんの誕生日パーティー

A daughter of my friend became 4 years old and invited us to her party.

私の友達の娘さんが４歳になり、誕生日会に招待してくれました。

We saw many Japanese kids at the party.

日本人の子供がパーティーにたくさんいました。
Edo is still too small to go around, so stayed in his daddy's arm.

英土はまだ動きまわるには小さいので、お父さんにだっこされてました。
They really organized this party well, so every one of us got our name tag prepared by them.

とっても段取りよくいろいろ考えていたパーティーで、英土も含め、参加者全員の名前シールが用意されてありました。
After the cake, there were many activities for the kids to enjoy and the kids seemed to have a lot of fun there.

ケーキを食べた後も、いろんなアクティビティーがあって、子供達は喜んで色々してました。
At the end, there was pinata which was so common in a birthday party in the States and the kids went crazy for it.
最後は、アメリカでは恒例のピニャータで、子供達もぞろぞろと集まっていました。

Since Edo is still too small, we couldn't do much except observing the party, but we learned a lot about what-to-do at the party for future's Edo's birthday.
英土がまだ小さいので、今回はパーティーを見る以外はあまり参加できなかったけど、将来の英土の誕生日パーティーの参考にかなりなりました。

Ale's company picnic: アレの会社のピクニック
A few times a year, Ale's company organize some gathering, inviting employees' family.
年に２、３回ほど、アレの会社が、社員の家族を招いて、こういう企画をしてくれます。
今回は、英土のお披露目の機会となりました。
This time, it's an opportunity for Ale to show Edo to his colleagues.
Edo is in Jinbei and ready to know daddy's friends.
英土は甚平を着ていきました。「さむらいベイビーだね〜」と。でも、実は、起きていたのはほんのわずかで、ピクニック中、けっこう寝てました。
It was a wonderful weather and of course there was BBQ!
いい天気で、もちろんBBQでした。
Since Ale's parents were with us, they joined us too.
アレの両親も一緒に行きました。
